Over the last few months I've made a few new beauty purchases and I wanted to share my reviews with you! You can read all about my everyday makeup routine here, and if you love reading product reviews (like I do!) here's my most recent review post form earlier this winter. This review is all focused on beauty products, but I'm working on another post related to skincare for next week.
As I've mentioned over and over again, I'm majorly committed to NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizers (probably for life). So, when I heard they had created a new product similar to the tinted moisturizer but better - it really took no convincing to get me into my nearest NARS counter. It's available in the same shades as Pure Radiant, so I wore my winter shade of Finland.
After wearing the Velvet Matte tint for a few days I have definitely noticed some significant differences between the two. The most important advice I would give would be to switch to this if you have oily skin. This really does have a great matte finish which hides and conceals most if not all oil and grease. My skin tends to be dry, especially in the winter, so personally I would consider continuing with the Pure Radiant in the winter to add a little luminous effect rather than the matte. The texture is thicker and incredibly smooth upon application with the same weightless feeling while wearing it. For such a lightweight formula it provides a very impressive amount of coverage (more than the pure radiant) and my skin looks very even in color (even with a couple blemishes).
Overall I give this new formula a high recommendation. I still love my Pure Radiant moisturizer as well, but for more coverage I would choose this. I currently have a couple zits (my perfect, breakout-free pregnancy skin is gone!) and even without any additional concealer they are covered nearly all day.
After reading this review on Cupcakes and Cashmere for the quest to find the best mascara, I was intrigued to try the winner. One of their highest contenders was my current favorite Kevyn Aucoin 'The Volume Mascara', so when something scored higher than that, I needed to give it a try.
The first obvious difference is the brush. 'Better than Sex' features a large thick and curvy brush aimed to plump up your lashes with few strokes. I found this mascara very easy to apply, and it really did add significant volume to my lashes. I feel that I get more length with Kevyn Aucoin, but 'Better than Sex' really delivers the volume. I was very pleased with the look of my lashes, a legitimately sexier look!
Overall the only drawback I found with this mascara was the flaking and mess. I am all about low maintenance makeup products, and I would not really consider this on that list. Not only did the color flake throughout the day, but removing it at night took significantly longer. Loved the volume for a date night, but I'm keeping my Kevyn Aucoin for my daily routine.
I love this! I picked it up impulsively at Sephora one day thinking I would try finally using a brush for my eyebrows, and now I'm in love! I'm also assuming it will last me close to forever seeing as I've been using it daily for over a month and see no difference in the bottle.
How it works: Brush your eyebrows into place (I brush mine upwards to enhance my arch) and the tinted gel holds then in place while lightly darkening the color. I barely noticed any color difference, but I have noticed a significant difference in how well the gel holds my brows in place. If I am really in a hurry or feeling lazy, I can use this to simply shape my brows for a clean look without makeup. Both most days I use this as a guide for filling them in, while the gel keeps them in place for the day. Takes 5 seconds to use, I see results all day!
I've used this stick before, but it's been a couple of years since I bought a new one. I picked this up in Orgasm and have been using it as a highlighter around my cheekbones. It's a creamy stick which glides across your face easily leaving a very thin an ultra lightweight layer of color and shimmer. I love this stick for how easy and lightweight it is. Seriously, everything NARS makes gives the feeling you're not even wearing makeup, it's incredible.
I wouldn't use this totally in place of blush (although you absolutely could). I like to have a pink blush base, but sweep this across my cheekbones to add a little shimmer and soft glow to my face. Especially in these winter months when my face lacks color, it is a great and easy way to bring a little color dimension. This isn't an essential, but if you're looking for a highlighter, I love this as a multipurpose piece.
So here I am wearing all of the above mentioned products. I spent VERY little time doing my makeup this morning (max 5 minutes), so this is a easy look for when you're short on time or have little kiddos like me! My lipstick is Giorgio Armani 'Rouge d'Armani' #601, which is a perfect all-day stain.
