After giving some thought to the extensive list of ideas I have for upcoming posts I plan to share with everyone, I couldn't think of a better way to start my first post than an introduction!
Welcome, welcome, welcome - eeeek finally! I could not be happier or more excited to share my life and adventures with all of you! I have been an avid fashion blog follower for years. I've spent countless hours browsing street style blogs, turning green with envy over the latests bags (my weakness) and shoes. But more recently I've become an avid follower of many different lifestyle blogs, navigating the world of motherhood in its different stages, with its ups, downs and still fashionable in-betweens! So now more than anything I'm just looking forward to joining this community of such interesting, inspiring and diverse bloggers.
So, who am I, and why am I blogging?
I'm Colleen and I live in the beautiful city of Minneapolis, MN. I say beautiful now, because it's fall and truly a wonderful time to live here! But Minneapolis is known not only for it's perfect summers and falls - but mostly its winters which make you desperately need a vacation (hence the picture above of Matthew and me in Mexico this past February!)
I am the mother of an off-the-walls energetic 1 year old, Josephine Elizabeth. She is filled with a seemingly endless supply of kisses, smiles and attitude! She will soon be joined by our new baby (gender unknown!) due in January. I will also be marrying the most wonderful man, my fiancé Matthew, this coming August. So needless to say, this is going to be a year filled with excitement for our growing family!
One of the first words I alway use to describe myself is passionate - and for good reason! I am passionately in love with my life and grateful for the wonderful people and opportunities that inspire me daily. I LOVE traveling, baking, experiencing new adventures, and of course - being a mother to my little one! I am truly passionate about the wide variety of topics I want to share with you on Touch of Curl.
My passion for both fashion and baking started at an early age. This was well documented in photos of me as a child next to my prized Easy-Bake Oven, while often wearing a leotard and tutu with clip on earrings. From childhood on, activities which involved baking and family have always been some of my favorites. I was raised on recipes passed down from my grandmother and hands on teachings from my own mother. From learning how to crack an egg to perfecting my grandmothers pie crust, these are memories I treasure dearly. I've always loved the science and structure that comes with baking, however the fluidity of fashion that has always held my interest as well!
I come from a background working in retail and marketing, so after years of helping others shop as a career, I love nothing more than scouring the racks (or my laptop!) for myself. From Gap to J. Crew to Céline, I love the juxtaposition of high to low effortless glam. I LOVE shopping, wether I'm hopping from store to store or page to page online, for me it's less about buying as it is about getting to know everything that's out there this season!
Ever since the birth of my daughter, I have seen my style evolve so much as I've grown into my new roles in life. My days and nights involve less mini skirts and body-con dresses than they used to, but with that I have found a more refined look that can easily carry me from the park with Josie, to happy hour uptown with friends. I believe age (and practicality) have helped me find a stronger sense of my core personal style, allowing me to experiment with fun trends while still staying true to my aesthetic. The past few years have been such an incredible journey of growth and change, I am so thrilled to share with all of you what my family and I have coming up in the near future.
