It's been FOREVER!! And I miss you all!
Soon after writing my last post we packed up our life and moved into another Airbnb for 5 weeks, but this time in Antibes (a town about 30 mins down the coast of Nice). Durning this move my laptop was lost or stolen (or so I believed). I searched EVERYWHERE for it, but we eventually went to the Apple Store here, ordered a new one. A week later it showed up with a European keyboard, ugh. Learning French is already consuming all the extra brain space I have right now, so I can't imagine trying to learn a new keyboard too :( SO we ordered another one in English, and that one showed up in the British format!!! I can't win!
You guys, the world just didn't want me to have a laptop last month. So after returning the 2nd one (at this point I'm sure Matthew was contemplating just giving up on me completely), I found my original!! It was hidden in a dark space of our new place that I couldn't see while searching. ANYWAY, It's been forever, but I am finally back in business!
And wow I have so much to share with you! I can't believe we have already been living here in the South of France for over 2 months!
Our place in Antibes was FABULOUS! We had a pool the the girls played in everyday, as well as enough space (and more) for everyone. Which was great because while there we had many guests visiting from the States! Here is Josie testing the water above :)
P.S. if you have little girls and are not shopping H&M's $4.99 tank dresses, you're missing out!! Josie is wearing one above and we have about 10 between the two girls! They're the perfect dress, and always available in many different prints. Here is a link!
You might be wondering why we're staying in Airbnb's while here - well that's a great question, one that I have not addressed well on here.
We purchased an apartment in Nice last year, however the renovations are taking FAR longer than anticipated. Try 4 months longer - UGHHHH. So, after hearing this news while we were still in MN, we didn't have many options. Our home in MN has been booked solid all summer with Airbnb rentals, so we could not stay there. We decided to go ahead with our move on schedule, and use our income from renting our MN home to fuel our Airbnb stays here in France. It's not ideal, but it was the right decision for us.
So HOPEFULLY come late October we will be in our new place - and when we are I cannot wait to show it to all of you. Matthew and I have put our heart and soul into designing every inch of it (a complete remodel), and I think it's going to turn out fantastic. In the photo above you can see some fabric I've picked out for our furniture - it's going to be VERY gorgeous!
If you ever have any questions about our life here, please leave them in the comments and I'll make sure to address them! I love hearing from you ladies!
I am constantly amazed by the bond growing between these two girls. I remember having a brother the same distance apart, and while I don't have memories of this young, I have distinct memories of feeling happy and lucky to have a forever friend always along for the ride. These two are inseparable, and play together so much better than I anticipated. In the mornings Josie always asks when we can wake Madeline up, and after nap time they're both SO excited to see each other and go play. I'm so lucky to be their Mama and watch them grow! Their cuddles and hugs together are worth all of the craziness!!
I wore this while out in Cannes for a day date with Matthew! The top is currently 40% off here, and here (I LOVE it!) my shorts are available here (I LIVE in them!), I got my bag in The Real Real, and my shoes are (splurge item!) here. After our date, we were surprised by a gorgeous fireworks display over the water!
My parents came to visit last week!! Everyone had a blast!
My dress is $20 from Zara (you're welcome) and it's available in tons of different colors and prints.
Matthew and I are taking language classes for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week until December. Oh Boy.
It's a huge undertaking, but we are highly motivated to reach fluency as soon as we can. As much as I loved France as a visitor, living here is a something different entirely. I am entranced by the beauty of our surroundings, the culture and the language. Speaking English while living in this magnificent country feels like a sin, and I don't want to do it anymore!!
But man oh man is it tough - and I mean really tough! I studied French in college, but learning in order to excel on a test and pass a requirement is a completely different skill than learning to use something daily. French grammar is crazy y'all! My brain is tired, but my French is improving greatly!
Matthew and I have decided that come January we are going to speak only French in our home. The kids are picking it up so fast (much faster than us!) and it's the best way to retain our fluency, improve our accent and truly become a bilingual home!
So you might wonder where that means we will be in January - well, we love it so much here we're going to stay for a little while longer :) With the delay in our apartment, we decided to stay here longer than our plan of December, we'll be returning in Jan after the holidays in MN, and then who knows!
Right now we're loving our time here as a family, and I feel so blessed that we have the flexibility to make decisions like this. Thank you for following along - I promise more frequent posts to come :)
