And WE'RE HERE!!
I am thrilled to finally be in Nice after months and months of preparation and planning! Our road to Nice was filled with many bumps and roadblocks along the way, making the process much more complicated than expected. The application process for travel Visa's was very complicated and time consuming, involving a quick trip to Chicago to the French embassy and many certified copies of documents for us and the children - basically we needed to present everything but a blood sample. But thankfully we were accepted and received our Visas because at the airport we were interrogated about our travel plans since our return tickets were not until September and they wouldn't allow us on our flight without a Visa!
So getting here was crazy - but how about living here?
Well! Let me just say that life without Target is really challenging me on a daily basis, but I'm learning so much about patience, perseverance and appreciating cultural differences in the process! I am currently writing a post on the challenges I have found in cooking and shopping here, and all I have learned about French culture surrounding food - I think you'll love it.
But enough about the tough parts, let's get to the fun! Nice is AMAZING and we're really so lucky to be here. The weather is sunny and 82-85 everyday and filled with fun things to do with the kids. Here are some pictures from our first week!
I have SO many photos from this waterpark, because it's steps from our apartment and a daily hit with the girls! It's open from early in the am until sunset and always filled with giggling children. It's so much fun that it leaves the kiddos exhausted (which means extra long naps and a happy mama!) Below is a photo of some tuckered out kiddos resting after too much fun!
We air dry clothes here, and it's gorgeous :)
Matthew and I have a serious gelato problem - actually the entire city does because you cannot make it more than 2 steps without seeing someone holding a cone or cup! Recently we found the most incredible yogurt flavor made with fresh strawberries and raspberries daily, it's life changing. Thank GOD I walk 6-10 miles a day most days here.
Madeline is getting so big it's too much!! She's started talking so much since we've been here, and just gets cuter and sweeter everyday! I cannot believe how fast she is growing up!!
Nothing better :)
The flea market in Old Town Nice is exceptional! It's every Monday and I always wish I had more time to browse around. This week I picked up these vintage lingerie advertisements which I plan to hang in our master bedroom, and a vintage Hermès scarf! Now that our color scheme is nailed down for our apartment, I plan on searching for the perfect set of dishes and glassware there!
One of the more incredible lunches I've ever had at this quaint cafe in Mougins (Pablo Picasso's home village!)
Heading home from the flower market with our finds! The town square is filled with the most beautifil flower market 5 days a week - it's a dream!
And finally this little sweetie! Josie is growing up so much lately - and the whole threenager thing is no joke! She's becoming equal parts amazingly intelligent and sassy to her core! After 6 months of preschool and playing with friends her own age everyday, the adjustment away has been a little tough for her. So we've started having little 'adventures' together while Madeline naps, just Josie and Mommy, and it has done wonders for her mood. She really loves spending time doing big girl things like taking longer walks to different parts of the city, or just running around with mommy. It's been such a joy watching her grow up these last 3 years, I'm so proud of the little girl she is becoming!
Well that's all for now - as always, thank you for following along!
